Sclerotic Diseases

Glomerulosclerosis – Scars called sclerosis on the glomeruli is Glomerulosclerosis. Systemic disease like the diabetes and the lupus are the cause for this. The activation of glomerular cells is also the prime cause of generating materials that creates scars or marks. The growth factors of Molecules activate these and these molecular cells are passed on to the glomerulus through the flowing blood. The blood enters through a filter known as the glomerular filter.

Diabetic nephropathy – The prime cause of the glomerlar disease is the Diabetic nephropathy. This is the reason behind a total failure of kidney in United States. Increased level of glucose in the blood leads to kidney damage and is a trigger to the formation of diabetes. It creates scars in the kidney and the flow at which blood rushes in the kidney becomes faster. Thus the glomeruli face pressure and the blood pressure increases.

Usually a long time is taken for Diabetic nephropathy to develop. If glucose in the blood can be maintained properly then, people with diabetes can check the damage being done in their kidneys. Glucose can be checked by following a proper healthy diet. Proper medications, good amount of physical workout and a proper diet full of proteins and nutrition can reduce glucose. The people affected with diabetes should take care in keeping their blood pressure level under 130/85 mm Hg. ARBs as well as ACE inhibitors are effective medicines to check blood pressure and keeping the kidney safe. Patients with a damaged kidney or having diabetes can be given these medicines.

Focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) – This kind of disease creates marks in various sections of the kidney. These affect the glomerulus and also some part of the glomeruli. Focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) may create a systemic problem in a person. One can be affected with an idiopathic kidney disease without knowing the underlying cause. The most usual symptom of FSGS is Proteinuria. Doctors many times cannot detect Proteinuria as this disease is involved in the formation of many other kidney diseases. A biopsy report can clear all confusions. If a small section of tissue is taken from the affected place in the kidney and tested then only one can be convinced whether glomerular is present or not. However, in rare cases the report confirms these.

Biopsies of the kidney might be taken more than once to detect the disease and hence to start the proper treatment for FSGS. For the treatment of FSGS one needs to identify the focal scarring and also the removal of probable systemic diseases such as immune response to a wound or diabetes. It is very hard to cure idiopathic FSGS as the reasons that causes such a disease is not known. There is no treatment found in any parts of the world. Patients who suffer from FSGS for nearly 5 to 20 years slowly move towards a total failure of the kidneys. A more destructive form of FSGS is when a patient suffers a kidney failure within 2 to 3 years. Steroids and other immunosuppressive medicines help cure this by checking proteinuria and hence keeping the kidney healthy. The sad news is that such medications react positively for a few numbers of people. Rest experiences a poorer kidney condition. ACE inhibitors and ARBs are drugs used to check proteinuria. And hence control FSGS. The blood pressure level must be checked. One must also control the cholesterol levels and all other contributing factors that affect scratch in the kidney.
