Signs And Symptoms Of Glomerulonephritis
Edema (eh-DEE-muh): Edema is when fluids gets deposited in the cells and tissues it leads to inflammation and pain. Fluids get deposited in the hands, feet, face and the abdomen in case of failure of the kidney.
Hematuria (HEE-muh-TOOR-ee-uh): In this case one can see the presence of blood in the urine. The color of the blood may turn pink or the color of the cola.
Hypoproteinemia (HY-po-PRO-teen-EE-mee-uh): In this case the level of protein gets lowered in the blood.
Proteinuria (PRO-tee-NOOR-ee-uh): In this case the level of protein in the urine is high.
Uremia (yoo-REE-mee-uh): In this the harmful wastes and urea gets deposited in the blood. Through urine large amounts of harmful things and toxics get removed.
Diseases And Conditions
Autoimmune (AW-toh-ih-MYOON) disease: This is a kind of disease in which the bodies own cells that fights diseases causes harm to the body itself.
Hypertension (HY-per-TEN-shun): This is a condition when the level of blood pressure is quite high. This can again result in kidney damage or may times this disease is created due to a kidney damage.
Idiopathic (id-ee-o-PATH-ik) disease: The reason for the occurrence of this disease is not known.
Nephrotoxic (NEF-ro-TOKS-ik): This causes harm to the kidneys.
Sclerotic (skleh-ROT-ik) disease: The tissues show some marks and tights up in case of such a disease.
Systemic (sis-TEM-ik) disease: This disease attacks many parts of the human body. The disease spreads through the body as it flows with the help of blood flowing on every corner of the body.
Treatments And Procedures
Biopsy (BY-op-see): In this procedure they make use of a needle and get small parts of tissues of an organ and closely observe them under different microscopes. These different microscopes give different outputs and characteristics of the tissues.
Dialysis (dy-AL-ih-sis): This is a term used to define a medical cure. This treatment involves procedures to dispose off excess fluids and harmful wastes from the blood when the kidney of a person has stopped functioning properly.
Immunosuppressant (im-YOON-oh-suh-PRESS-unt): This is the name of a particular kind of medicine that is applied to prevent the immune system of the body.
Plasmapheresis (PLAZ-muh-fer-EE-sis): This is a medical procedure done to the blood where the blood is cured by taking it out of the body of a person. This helps in removing the dangerous antibodies present on the blood outside the body of the patient. After curing the blood is returned back to the patient’s body.
Kidney Parts And Organic Substances
Antibody (AN-tee-BOD-ee): These are molecules that protect the body from harmful diseases by affecting tissues and substances from outside the body. These antibodies are known as immunoglobulin.
Antigen (AN-tih-jen): This is a substance that pills out a reaction from the immune system of the body.
Autoantibody (AW-toh-AN-tee-bod-ee): This is a kind of antibody that affects the body itself.
Creatinine (kree-AT-ih-nin): When the muscles of a body break down naturally they create a waste product called creatinine. The kidneys which are fit and healthy throw away creatinine from the blood.
Glomerulus (gloh-MEHR-yoo-lus): There are small group of blood vessels that are connected inside the nephron. These harmful substances are filtered out from here.
Lipid (LIP-id): Lipid is one of the fattest elements that are used in the cells. The extra amount of lipids in the blood can lead to a dangerous collection of elements in the blood vessels.
Nephron (NEF-rahn): Nephrons are very small units located in the kidney that helps in filtering harmful wastes. There are many million of nephrons present in the kidney. They are formed by both glomerulus and a tubule that gathers fluids. This tubule takes care of wastes and water.
Protein (PRO-teen): Proteins are elements we get in food. They help the body repair damaged tissues, body growth and also fight diseases.
Urea (yoo-REE-uh): This is a harmful waste product present in the blood after breaking down of protein. The kidneys dispossess off waste harmful products to maintain its proper functioning. A damaged kidney gives permission to urea to get deposited and thus cause uremia.
